POSITION SUMMARY
• Indianapolis Ballet is seeking an experienced Director of Development for the advancement of classical ballet in our community. Reporting to the Artistic Director and President of the Board of Directors, this position develops and manages all funding functions for the company, school of ballet, productions, the summer intensive program, and special events. 
• Essential requirements of the position: demonstrated ability to create multi-year development plans and fundraise over $1,000,000; set objectives and achieve goals; exceptional time management, excellent writing skills, and attention to detail. 
• Duties include planning, budgeting, tracking, and reporting results of donations, soliciting corporate sponsors, grant writing, and managing future capital campaigns.
 
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develops and leads fundraising strategy to cultivate relationships and steward individual and corporate sponsors, donors, and contributions.
• Responsible for overseeing and creating all grant writing initiatives, grant compliance, and reports for the organization.
• Seeks out potential corporate sponsors and grant opportunities.
• Coordinates special events with Ballet Guild volunteers and board members.
• Maintains accountability and compliance standards for donors, sponsors, and funding sources.
• Creates and manages budget for development income and expense line items. Tracks expenditures.
• Manages new donor database in Bloomerang by processing donations, updating donor information, and facilitating donor acknowledgement letters.
• Establishes relationships with current and prospective donors. Collaborates with Artistic Director, Board members, and Director of Marketing and Communications to develop strategies and goals.
• Schedules development committee meetings and recruits members.
• Attends performances to establish and maintain relationships with patrons. 
• Takes initiative to assist with other job functions as needed for the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Four-year degree and 3+ years of relevant professional work experience in fundraising, grant writing, and relationship building. Experience or knowledge in the performing arts industry is strongly preferred, knowledge of classical ballet is desirable.
• Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills are required.
• Event management experience is preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Power Point) and experience with donor management software (such as Bloomerang).
• A Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the ability to sit for long periods of time to conduct daily business operations. Position also requires the hearing and visual acuity to converse with internal and external constituents in person, over the phone, and via electronic communication with or without reasonable accommodation. Director will need to maneuver behind and around the stage, and move throughout the theatre to conduct business during rehearsals and performances.
