Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB) is an environmental and community nonprofit with a mission to help people and nature thrive. We partner with neighborhoods, local government, universities, community groups, and businesses to achieve our vision of an Indianapolis that is loved, cared for, and ecologically rich. We are also one of the most volunteered-for organizations in Indianapolis, working with about 20,000 volunteers each year to plant trees and native landscapes, organize litter cleanups, turn vacant lots into pocket parks, create outdoor classrooms, restore habitat, and educate and employ youth.

Position Purpose:
The Youth Tree Team and Maintenance Coordinator position will work closely with the Director of Community Forestry Maintenance to plan and execute the Spring, Summer, and Fall seasons of the Youth Tree Team as well as coordinating the pruning work and survivability tracking to be accomplished by either the Youth Tree Team or volunteers.
This is a part-time position with the following maximum hourly guidelines in mind:
• December – February: 10 hours per week
• March – May: 20 hours per week
• June – July: 40 hours per week
• August – November: 20 hours per week 
The duties of this position are outlined below with the thought that the Community Forestry staff often works as a larger team and other duties may be required, time permitting.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:  

• Run planting, mulching and watering crew, if necessary
• Be aware of all work needed for the day and help with questions from Youth Tree Team (YTT) Members
• Make sure Leaders In Training (LIT) are communicating about work completed, specifically sites that were not finished 
• Assist with parking vehicles/trailers
• Make sure all vans are cleaned out, keys returned to key holder and radios properly docked
• Tow/pull out stuck van/trailer when needed
• Plan and coordinate yearly pruning schedule and survivability tracking with YTT and/or Tree Tenders
• Attend Saturday workdays in spring and fall
• Attend Recruiting opportunities with Director and help give presentations
• Attend all YTT applicant (youth and leader) hiring events 
 o Assist with data input from those days
 o Assist with all YTT hiring decisions
• Assist with Summer Prep
 o Train new leaders
 o Train new youth 
 o Assign crews
 o Plan enrichment and lunch & learn activities
 o Prep warehouse and vehicles
 o Plan lunch schedule
• Work either the morning or afternoon shift, opposite of Director of Community Forestry Maintenance
• Help execute enrichment activities and lunch & learns, including contacting partners to confirm, supervising activity, setting up projector, etc. 
• Assist LIT's in making sure the garden and trees at the site are getting maintained on a regular basis
• Ensure completion of weekly tree identification quizzes
• Confirm weekly evaluations are occurring, including:
 o Verify leaders are completing evaluations weekly
 o Verify youth are checking the evaluations weekly
• Sit in on Week 3 and Week 6 evaluations  
• Organize and help set up lunches and delegate after lunch cleaning session               
Qualifications Required:
• Flexible schedule – some Saturday and evening work required
• Experience working outdoors in all weather conditions 
• Valid US Driver's License
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Able to safely operate (or willing to learn) large trucks, trailers, dump trucks, forklift, skid-steer, etc.
• Capable of safely using arboriculture tools such as shovels, pickaxes, rakes, knives, saws, loppers, post-pounders, etc.
• Able to walk over three miles/day in various weather conditions
• Able to lift containerized trees in excess of 40 lbs during planting seasons 
• Participate in ongoing arboriculture education 
• Bi-lingual proficiency skills a plus

• Calm demeanor and good decision-making skills in stressful situations, such as medical emergencies
• Able to effectively work with a team to complete a task
• Able to successfully complete a project on time
