The Director plans, directs, and coordinates activities of the designated department to ensure that goals and objectives are accomplished within prescribed time frames and funding parameters by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conduct educational presentations on various health and wellness topics at schools, community organizations and at major community-wide special events
• Execute health and wellness outreach promotional campaigns, information and registration sessions, etc.
• Develop and administer mini-health fairs and healthy community day efforts in partnership with IUL health and wellness partners
• Launch and execute National Urban League (NUL) health and wellness initiatives such as Project Wellness, Remarkable Woman, and/or Saving Our Sons
• Serve as a staff liaison for IUL Board of Directors committees
• Represent the IUL on various local community health and awareness related committees, taskforces, etc.
• Work with the National Urban League (NUL) to execute NUL sponsored activities and events (Ex. National AIDS Day)
• Conduct annual community health issues forum
• Work collaboratively with the leadership team on fundraising efforts
• Develop information and updates for inclusion in quarterly and monthly newsletters and annual reports
• Assist the leadership team by updating health and wellness information on the IUL website as needed
• Administer or conduct fitness activities such as exercise classes, run/walk, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in public health, health and wellness, healthcare administration, social work or related field; five to seven years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Master's degree a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Ability to write reports, op-eds and business correspondence.  Knowledge of Spanish desirable but not required.
 
READING/COMPREHENSION SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group and large group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

COMPUTER SKILLS:
Working knowledge and skills in operating computer equipment, data processing and general office machines.  Proficiency in Excel, MS Word and Publisher a plus.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs and various charts.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
