This Vice President serves as a leader, supervisor, manager, planner, and change-agent rendering executive oversight of all fiscal and financially related functions and systems for a veterans' support nonprofit.  The general scope of day-to-day responsibility includes managing an annual budget of approximately $8M, the administration of 19 individual grant programs ranging from $5K to $3M, contributing to multiple and recurring grant reporting requirements, audit readiness, and the responsibility for thousands of individual transactions associated with payroll, vendor services, and client services.

This position serves as an exemplary HVAF advocate in the community, with local leaders in the public, private, and government sectors; other nonprofits, civic organizations, and other relevant centers of influence.

All senior staff positions are empowered and expected, in all situations, to exercise their best professional judgement, make complex decisions, apply personal initiative, and take appropriate action(s) in an independent but coordinated manner with other departments in a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous operating environment.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide leadership, supervision, management, and oversight to the Finance Department.
2. Act as a change agent shaping short- and long-range financial plans aligned with agency strategy and in collaboration with the President/CEO, Directors, and Senior Staff.
3. Develop and implement action plans to sustain, enhance, expand, and improve agency finance functions.
4. Partner in planning and managing agency expansion/evolution on a 2-10-year planning horizon
5. Manage all aspects of external annual financial audit

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Implement all financial matters, including policies, procedures, reporting, systems, and infrastructure.
• Manage all financial functions, including general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, bank reconciliation, credit cards, lines of credit, restricted funds, cash flow, payroll financial statements and budget development.
• Develop and maintain accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial information and compliance with GAAP and uniform guidance and nonprofit accounting standards and guidelines.
• Implement and document procedures, policies, and protocols to ensure proper internal control.
• Ensure compliance with all financial policies.
• Manage prospective programmatic budgets, and partner with peer Department Heads (Vice Presidents) to develop and refine their respective departmental budgets, and assess the cost effectiveness of operations and services delivery in collaboration with the senior management team.
• Review each payroll and provide a check and balance for payroll functions.
• Create monthly, yearly, and other as-needed financial statements and reports for Senior Staff and Directors.
• Prepare regular updates tailored for management team, Board of Directors, donors, and partners.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
1. Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance required.  Master's degree preferred.
2. Military experience preferred.
3. Nonprofit accounting, grant management, bookkeeping, and financial management experience preferred.
4. CPA or CMA certifications a plus.
5. Process improvement experience and/or certification preferred.
6. Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office Products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams.
7. Demonstrated proficiency in multiple accounting software platforms.
8. Collaborative interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to lead, follow, and collaborate as situation dictates
9. Demonstrated oral, written, presentation (briefing), and public-speaking communications skills
10. Demonstrated creativity, adaptiveness, flexibility, resiliency, and innovation
11. Ability to inspire trust and cooperation with teammates, Directors, volunteers, donors, and partners.
12. Ability to present a positive and professional image and attitude
13. Experience in leading teams, planning and managing projects, and solving complex problems.
14. Demonstrated time-management skills and proven experience in managing priorities and deadlines.
15. Demonstrated experience operating in high-tempo, dynamic, time-sensitive environment(s).
