Limited Duration Position – This is a full-time, 12-month grant funded position, renewable based on availability of funds.  

The mission of MLK Center is to create a meaningful impact on the lives of those in the neighborhoods we serve, through quality, multi-generational programs that build community, invest in youth, empower families, advocate for our neighbors and provide a peaceful space to connect.  We are adding a team member to assist with coordination of activities in the Best Buy Teen Tech Center.  Our Best Buy Teen Tech Center powered by Klipsch, is a creative, safe, and free out-of-school learning environment where young people from our neighborhood work with adult mentors to explore their own ideas, develop new skills, and build confidence in themselves using technology. On-site technology includes coding, graphic design, 3D printing, music production, videography and much more.  In partnership with The Clubhouse Network, young people ages 10 to 18 receive support and resources to pursue their interests and build upon their talents.    

The programming includes the Clubhouse to Career (C2C) Pathways to Success program in our Best Buy Teen Tech Center for students ages 16 to 21.  This program is just one part of our two-generation, trauma informed programming for youth, families, and community.  The goal of this program is to develop and implement technology and work readiness curricula and other program elements to prepare youth ages 16-21 for Best Buy retail, Geek Squad and other local tech jobs.  

A typical day in this position might include:

  • Facilitating a Saturday workshop series about Adobe Creative Cloud designed to build knowledge and skills for employment
  • Meeting with a local company to develop an internship opportunity and match a student with this internship
  • Providing data to the Programs Director for a grant report to Clubhouse Network 
  • Joining a conference call with Best Buy and other tech centers in the region 
  • Engaging with youth after school to edit their video 
  • Conducting an orientation for new volunteer mentors into the space
  • Coaching a student to navigate through challenges at their internship 
  • Co-host an outreach event to engage students into the Tech Center experience 
  • Attending a professional development session on new technology or youth development 
  • Taking students on a field trip to Klipsch corporate headquarters 

This job might be for you if you: 

  • Have a proven track record working with black youth from Indianapolis neighborhoods like Butler Tarkington, Crown Hill, Mapleton Fallcreek, and Meridian Kessler 
  • Have work experience in an informal learning environment 
  • Have a passion for learning and helping others to learn. 
  • Are familiar with employer expectations 
  • Believe in our 2-Generation programming for youth and their parents
  • Believe in the nonviolence principles of Dr. King.
