Part-time (29.5 hours per week)

United Way of Johnson County is looking for an entry-level social work or human services candidate for the new Program Assistant position.  The Program Assistant would join an existing team of five staff to primarily assist with the No Place to Call Home and various United Way programs.  The No Place to Call Home program is the only comprehensive homeless assistance program in Johnson County, serving Johnson County residents who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.  The Program Assistant will assist with, updating and maintaining of program participant information and files; follow up emails and phone calls to program participants; and completing evaluations with program participants who successfully exit the program. 

The program assistant will also assist with the Helpline, including answering calls from Johnson County residents in need of resource and referral information; maintaining and building relationships with community resources; and completing required documentation of callers' needs and referrals made.  The Program Assistant will report to the Impact Director and Helpline Associate.  The Program Assistant will work closely with the Impact Director on several other United Way of Johnson County programs, including Operation Bundle Up (winter coat collection and distribution), Christmas Angels, Fast Track (school supply collections and distribution) and Day of Caring (largest single day volunteer event in the community).

United Way of Johnson County is located in Franklin, Indiana, and serves Johnson County residents each year through 17 funded agency partners and 8 direct service programs.  United Way of Johnson County is overseen by a volunteer board of directors who ensure that we meet our mission "to organize caring people to identify and meet human needs in our community". 

 Job Duties:

-Assist with the No Place to Call Home Program

  • Assist with data entry for the No Place to Call Home program, including updating and maintaining master client spreadsheet.
  • Assist with organization and maintenance of past and current client files.
  • Follow up emails and phone calls to referred clients who have not completed paperwork for program entry.
  • Complete exit surveys and 3 and 6 month follow up surveys with closed clients.
  • Enter Charity Tracker information.

-Assist with daily Helpline operations to ensure high quality of services. 

  • Answer Helpline calls and provide resource and referral information to callers and keep accurate data collection of callers' needs, referrals made, and other statistical information.
  • Assist in the production of resource directories.
  • Assist in updating community information.

-Assist the Helpline Associate with Operation Bundle Up, including attend committee meetings; assist in securing collection locations, updating databases for collections and flyer distribution, updating annual materials; attend event; assist in data entry after the event

-Assist Impact Director with the Christmas assistance program, including updating materials; attend intake; assist with data entry, contacting sponsors and families, sponsor solicitation and follow up; assist with mailings for the program; attend needed meetings; attend Christmas Angel Tree Store.

-Assist Impact Director with the Fast Track program, including securing collection sites, preparing updated materials, attending committee meetings, attend Stuff the Bus events, attend distribution events, assist in inventory of school supplies

-Assist Impact Director with the Day of Caring program, including data entry of projects, company information, project manager information, t-shirt ordering, evaluation data entry, putting together digital scrapbook

 

Requirements:

High School diploma or equivalency and/or experience in a human service-related field

Operational knowledge of information and referral services

Knowledge of social service agencies

Community relations in resourcing and networking

Compassionate and empathetic to client situations

Strong listening and critical thinking skills

Realistic approach to addressing clients' needs and understanding the parameters of services available

Communication, written, presentation and interpersonal skills

Project management skills

Ability to handle multiple tasks

Proficient with Microsoft office products, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Experience with web-based databases a plus

Experience working with volunteers

Available to work some evenings and weekends
