Position Summary

This position contributes to meeting Renew's goals of supporting comprehensive community development, neighborhood stabilization and quality of life initiatives by contributing to the initiative to reduce vacant, abandoned, and deteriorated properties.

The Land Bank Specialist assist with the day-to day operations of the land bank according to established policies and procedures. 

Evaluation of Performance                                                                                 

Performance will be evaluated based on meeting the specific goals, deadlines, and other quality indicators established for this position; working according to all specifications, policies, and standards established by Renew Indy, working effectively in a team environment, and interacting positively with all clients and employees.

Essential Responsibilities and Key Outcomes                                 

  • Review and process land bank applications providing recommendations to the Review Committee
  • Communicate effectively with Renew clients through incoming calls and email inquiries
  • Provide guidance on the land bank application process and timeline to interested buyers
  • Coordinate and assist in meetings with interested buyers to discuss the application process
  • Coordinate and track property management contracts for all Renew Indianapolis properties, including but not limited to mowing, trash / debris removal, security. 
  • Utilize project management software fully to ensure Renew Indianapolis staff remain up-to-date on status of all properties
    • Maintain project files to ensure regulatory and grant compliance, and availability of documents needed for annual financial audit 
    • Develop and maintain relationships with contractors involved in real estate development activities to ensure contract fulfillment and timely completion of projects
    • Manage and implement public showings of land bank properties
    • Assist with marketing, advertising, and inspecting land bank properties
    • Receive, review and process documents (invoices, etc.) 
    • Respond to phone calls and emails related to land bank and housing development inquiries
    • Meet with neighborhood organizations with the aim of fostering strong open relationships
    • Assist with the coordination of maintenance of land bank properties
    • Assist with land bank closing documentation 
    • Communicate with partners as needed regarding land bank properties
    • Maintain and update data as required
    • Collaborate with the team on marketing the land bank program, properties, and buyers
      • Assist with grant writing by researching, writing, and assisting with the coordination of grant application processes 
      • Assist in the preparation and submission of program claims
      • Assist with the review of work progress for compliance with the scope and schedule
      • Assist with other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience, education, degrees and licenses                                                                

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in project management, construction, specification writing, or rehabilitation, real estate, or government

  • Must possess a valid state driver's license or have the ability to obtain one prior to   employment
  • Must possess reliable transportation as travel required but is primarily local during the business day and may include daily site visits

Preferred Experience, education, degrees and licenses    

  • Bachelor's degree 
  • Real Estate Industry experience a plus
  • Bilingual / Proficient in English and Spanish                 

Physical Demands

Must be able to work proficiently with computers and other office equipment.

Work is primarily in an office environment, both at the Renew office and stakeholder offices.

Must be able to travel to meet potential lenders, City/State leadership, etc.
