Position Summary:

The Prospect Development and Research Analyst (PDRA) conduct research and prepare briefing materials with the emphasis on existing WM donors and verifying assets, interest, professional and philanthropic history, nonprofit affiliations, personal and business connections. Assign fundraiser to prospects based on giving level, relationship, propensity/capacity ratings, and other factors.  Lead prospect management functions with goal of optimizing portfolios.  

Wheeler Mission (WM) is a privately funded 501 (c) 3 non-profit, evangelical Christian ministry whose designated purpose is religious.  We are a Christ-centered ministry which is dedicated to sharing the Gospel and helping the homeless and impoverished.  Wheeler Mission considers every position one of ministry and a vital and valued part of our team. Qualifications: 

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position:

  1. Possess a sincere love of Christ and maintain a Christian walk that is evident of that love.  Individual must be willing to sign and adhere to the Wheeler Mission Statement of Faith and Code of Conduct.
  2. Experience using donor database software and prospect screening tools; Research Point, iwave, and Wealth Engine.
  3. Interpersonal Skills – maintains confidentiality, remains open to others' ideas, and exhibits a willingness to try new things; works well in a team atmosphere and gets along well with others; prioritizes work activities, uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans. 
  4. Adaptability – adapts well to changes in the work environment, manages stress effectively, manages competing demands and can deal effectively with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events. The ability to work effectively in a team environment with associates and be equally effective and productive working on individual projects requiring minimal direct supervision.
  5. Oral Communications – Exceptional oral communications skills a must with the ability to speaks clearly, persuasively, and kindly in positive or negative situations, demonstrates exceptional group presentation skills and the ability to conduct meetings.
  6. Written Communications – Exceptional written communication skills a must with the ability to fill out of forms with a high degree of accuracy. Communicates well via email, routinely edits work for spelling and grammar errors, presents numerical data effectively and able to read and interpret written information. Must have excellent ability to compose business correspondence and ability to create effective visual presentations using multiple electronic platforms and programs.
  7. Dependability – consistently on time, willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays when required, follows instructions, responds to management direction, and solicits feedback to improve personal performance.

Major Responsibilities

  1. Map personal, business, and institutional relationships between donors, prospects, volunteers, and others connected to Wheeler Mission.
  2. Incorporate results of prospect research into donor database and recommend actions to Major gift development staff.
  3. Proactively seek, identify, and research new prospects for Major gift team.
  4. Manage all aspects of customized predictive modeling projects and advise members of the Major Gift team on implementing new fundraising strategies based on findings.
  5. Work closely with Director of Donor Services on report and data that will help drive actions for the Major gift team.
  6. Collaborate with Director of Donor Services on special project to optimize the usage of the donor database by frontline fundraisers.
  7. Manage acquisition and renewal of research subscription tools.
  8. Stay current and knowledgeable regarding prospect management and research tools and methodology.

Educational Events

  1. Keep up on current changes and updates in Raiser Edge donor software.
  2. Attend Raiser Edge training seminars as needed.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting and performs other tasks in an outdoors environment. For example, help with donor events like the drumstick dash, 100 holes for the homeless and other donor events.  

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing this job the employee is required to talk and hear. It is a typical office environment with some outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions. Occasional evening and weekend work are required. Heavy computer use utilizing Microsoft Office suite of products and other programs.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Previous experience in donor software and data analyst.

Background Investigation and Drug Testing:

  1. After a "conditional offer of employment" is made, the individual must pass a background investigation.
  2. Wheeler Mission Ministries has a mandatory drug testing policy for all new employees. The successful applicant must submit to and pass a drug and/or alcohol test. This drug and/or alcohol testing may occur any time after the applicant receives a conditional offer of employment.  All employees must sign and adhere to Wheeler Mission Drugs and Alcohol policy and remain free from addiction to drugs or alcohol.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities at this time.

Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time 40-hour per week position. Typically, work hours will be from 9AM to 5PM, but must be willing to work a very flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and some holidays; these and overtime work will be required as job duties demand. 

Travel:

Travel is primarily local and mainly during the business day and may include traveling to WM facilities in Bloomington, Indiana as well as special event locations as job duties demand.
