Manage activities primarily, but not exclusively, related to growing the giving and engagement of granting organizations with a focus on securing grants from public sector funders and assist with private and corporate funders. Responsible for renewing and increasing support from existing funders as well as identifying and securing support from new public sector funding sources. Track and ensure grant applications and reports are submitted on time. Coordinate organizational grant seeking and management efforts with Director, Grants and Foundations. Additionally, a significant component of this role is creating outgoing funding agreements, consultant agreements, and MOUS; and managing the related execution and data management process. 

Position Duties & Responsibilities 

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified. 

  • Fundraising: In conjunction with internal partners, develop and implement strategies to grow the revenue generated from grant-making organizations and foundations with a focus on public sector entities and foundations. Responsible for identification, prospect research, planning cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of current and prospective funders. Serve as the lead coordinator with the Impact team in identifying grant funding needs and developing content for specific Impact strategies. For philanthropic grants, work with the Director, Grants and Foundations to finalize and submit proposals. For government grants, Sr. Manager, Grants will finalize and submit proposals. Work closely with Chief Impact Officer, and Director, Grants and Foundations to ensure coordination of efforts. 
  • Constituent Relationships: Work with UWCI's Impact team to identify funding needs for organization's mission and priority areas. Regularly communicate funding needs with Chief Impact Officer, and Director, Grants and Foundations. Serve as the point of contact and coordinate program information and outcomes needed for grant applications and reports. Be knowledgeable about UWCI's work in Central Indiana and be an effective and compelling communicator of the same to advance engagement and brand value. Ensure activity is recorded in CRM database in a timely manner. 
  • Grants: In conjunction with Impact Senior Directors, develop basic narrative templates to be used for grant applications and reports. Write, edit, and provide strategic guidance on grant proposals to ensure consistent, compelling, high-quality content. Develop and implement efficient and effective grant management processes. Assist in the evaluation of grants to determine if a grant should continue. 
  • Prospect Research: Prospect for new grant opportunities, using prospect research software/websites, public filings, and other data; create grant seeking strategies based on prospective opportunities; and regularly communicate these opportunities and strategies to the Director, Grants and Foundations and Impact Senior Directors. 
  • Relationships: Develop and maintain regular contact with existing and prospective grant- making organizations. Identify and communicate with appropriate UWCI team members regarding opportunities to seek government funds and to facilitate relationship development with potential government funders. 
  • Annual Goals: Achieve established dollar goals for renewing and increasing awarded grant dollars from existing public sector funders as well as identify and secure grants or contracts from new public sector funders. Work with other members of the UWCI team to ensure goals reflect, align and contribute to the broader goals of the organization. Ensure grants/contracts are applied for and reports are submitted on time. 
  • Grant Agreements - Incoming: Review incoming contracts for compliance with UWCI policies and procedures, making sure to identify questions, communicate those questions internally as appropriate and then to resolve questions with the contracting source if need be. Once questions are resolved, ensure the appropriate internal signature is obtained, forward the contract back to the source for contract execution, and document contract in CRM database. 
  • Contracts - Outgoing: Work with COO/CFO, and Impact team to manage the creation, approval, execution, and data management processes related to all outgoing funding agreements, consultant agreements and MOUs. Ensure that executed contracts are documented in CRM database. 
  • Flexibility: As with any successful organization, UWCI is evolving with our changing external environment. Flexibility is a key attribute for this position. A willingness to take on additional duties to ensure the success of the team is essential. 
  • Performs special assignments and other work, on an as-needed basis. 

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience 

At least 5 years of demonstrated history of persuasive writing e.g., grant proposals, reports, research papers, and/or marketing material is required. Experience in government grants management preferred. Bachelor's degree required. Focus in philanthropic studies, public administration, business, marketing or other related field with at least four years business, social services or nonprofit administrative experience preferred. Knowledge of the central Indiana community and the human service sector is preferred.
