OBAT Helpers is seeking an individual with a passion for humanitarian work and the expertise and skills needed to manage finance and accounting for a growing nonprofit. The Finance Manager will serve as an important contact for multiple project staff. The ideal candidate is an excellent problem solver with exceptional financial expertise who can develop and execute appropriate financial controls. Experience with nonprofit organizations is key along with strong communication and interpersonal skills. The Finance Manager will be a person of the highest integrity and be fully aware of their professional and legal responsibilities and duties as a financial officer in an organization that is in the public eye and receives public support.

Essential Job Functions

 

Responsible for the hands on and daily management of the accounting and financial processes within the organization, including planning, development, reporting and ongoing evaluation.

Coordinate the budgeting process and timetable, working with leadership to develop the annual project and communicating progress toward meeting financial objectives to all stakeholders, including the Board of Directors.

Develop and present accurate reports to assist in the overall financial management of the organization. 

Ensure that assets are properly controlled, resources are utilized appropriately, and activities are reported accurately and in a timely manner for domestic and international activity.

Identify opportunities for improvement, cost reduction, and systems enhancement.

Responsible for the development of a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism in close collaboration with Treasurer and ED.

Provide support for the management of agency compliance filing and tax preparations.

Oversight and supervision of the audit processes, ensuring favorable outcomes and continual improvement. 

Evaluate and advise on the financial impact of strategic and long-range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies and regulatory action.

Identify gaps in financial oversight to enhance and update policies. Implement and uphold financial policies and procedures of the organization that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the agency.

Support staff in financially managing grants, restricted funds, program budgets and program activities.

Inform the ED of financial and operational issues on a timely basis. Identify obstacles and risks to the financial or operational health of the organization. Assist in developing risk mitigation strategies to address contingencies that may arise.

Optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position.

Manage and complete all aspects of accounts payable and receivable. 

Review financial reports received from programs in Bangladesh and coordinate with the finance department of implementing partners based in Bangladesh.

Additional duties as assigned by the ED.

Required Education and Experience

-       BA/BS degree in business, nonprofit financial management, accounting, or similar

-       3 years' experience working with nonprofits' finances

-       Proficiency with accounting software, spreadsheets and data management systems 

Preferred Education and Experience

-       CPA or comparable work experience

-       International experience

-       Working knowledge of Salesforce

Work Environment

Most work is performed in an office setting. Flexibility to be remote.

The position is designed with 95% of expected time in the U.S.

Occasional, short trips to Bangladesh may be required for financial monitoring of projects. (COVID-19 permitting)

Physical Requirements

Ability to communicate with various audiences using diverse methods and means including but not limited to email, handwritten, verbal, telephone, and in-person.

Ability to travel, including by air.
