GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Gift Planning is responsible for developing and implementing a long-term program that will substantially enhance philanthropic giving to Saint Mary's College. The Director will be responsible for all aspects of planned giving including communication, administration, prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship programs and activities. Collaboration with the development team in strategic planning is essential while working closely with the Executive Director of Regional Development and the Associate Vice President for Advancement. This individual also serves as the primary representative for the members of Mother Pauline Society, the College's legacy society.
Receives general supervision from the Executive Director of Regional Development.
Exercises partial direct supervision over clerical staff.
Must have 5-10 years of development experience preferably in planned or major giving in a higher education or community-based non-profit. Exceptional interpersonal, organizational and communication skills (oral and written) essential. Director is required to have excellent analytical and legal skills and knowledge and is expected to understand relevant tax laws and planned giving vehicles and keep current on any changes in the field. Knowledge of charitable trusts, gift annuities, bequests and other planned gifts required. Strategic planning, strong presentation and relationship building skills are essential, along with the ability to manage a portfolio successfully.
Candidate should be a motivated, innovative, diplomatic, persistent energetic team player with the ability to manage a portfolio of donors successfully. Ability to travel required. Expected travel 15-20%.
Bachelor's Degree required.
Remote work is acceptable, if within a close driving distance to campus (3 hours or less).
ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of specialized gift planning software preferred.
Experience in comprehensive campaigns a plus.
Live within driving distance of Saint Mary's College.
EXAMPLES OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops and manages a comprehensive gift planning program that includes prospect visits, relationship management, education of regional development staff, College boards and councils on gift planning basics, and the coordination of mailings, newsletters and emails to select audiences.
Coordinates all aspects and details of pending and completed planned gifts among the donor, the donor's advisors, the Finance Office, and the President's Office.
Identifies, visits, cultivates, solicits and stewards a portfolio of up to 100 prospects
Meets annual goal of visits with 8-10 donors per month, establishes and meets annual fundraising goals.
Prepares monthly and annual progress reports and manages the gift planning budget.
